Biography

Born in 1973, Julie Bowyer grew up in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney. Following a two year diploma in Photojournalism with KVB Communications she began her career as a suburban photographer in western Sydney. The last decade has seen Julie trekking throughout South America on a sponsored photographic trip, documenting everything from life with the Meuoruna Indians at the Triple Frontier in the Peruvian Amazon to the ascent and summit of Cotopaxi, an active volcano 5897 metres above sea level in Ecuador. Other international work includes expeditions to China, Mongolia, Indian Himalayas and throughout the South Pacific. The last ten years has also seen Julie working for local and international publications and holding solo exhibitions of her work.

During research for an Honours Thesis with the Geoscience Department at The University of Sydney, Julie was given a rare insight into the triadic relationships that exist between Aboriginal people, and their physical and spiritual environment. This experience has prompted this award-winning photographer to combine her love of cultures, the natural environment and photojournalism.

Currently Julie is working with various national and international agencies and clients.
